Broadband Project

In 2010, Blackhawk Hills RC&D, along with Northern Illinois University, Rockford/Boone County, and NCICG/LaSalle County, were awarded a $46 grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to construct a high-speed fiber optic network throughout portions of northwest Illinois.  Over 80 miles of fiber optic conduit have been installed since July 2011.  For the latest updates, including photos and videos, please visit www.ifiber.org.

Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grants

Blackhawk Hills RC&D was awarded $750,000 to provide Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grants in our area.  The council awarded 27 communities and local governments with grant funds to assist with projects promoting energy conservation at community facilities.

Environthon

Blackhawk Hills RC&D offers scholarships to local Envirothon winners.  Envirothon is a team-based program designed to help students better understand their environment through exploration of ecology, natural resource management, and current environmental issues.  Morrison High School won the 2011 competition.
